That is going to be AWESOME when you get it done. Looks like you have given it a lot of thought. Great job! I like the four stroke also.

I got tired of people asking how many RPM's I was turning while I was complaining about top speed....LOL, so I took it upon myself to get it hooked up tonight. I got with The "Ol Coot, EricM, and he researched the wire harness for me and came up with a plan using the colors included in the factory harness.

I used the Tach that was on the boat when I bought it, since it looked a little better than the one of my old boat I salvaged. I got it hooked up and cranked up the motor. It would only read 1K or 1200K and that's it. A call to Eric to confirm the colors one more time, we concluded the tach was not acting right. So I hooked up the other one I and, cranked the motor, Success! It works great. I cant wait to get it back on the water again.

Now spur go out and log that top wot and we can work from there on the prop size. You and that ole goat are beginning to make a pretty good team.

I need to work on the tach, not sure on that Honda wire harness where the connection point is. I know a boat this big will never be a speed machine, but I would like to maximize what I have to work with.

You definitely don't want to lug that motor. Get that tach hooked up and we can figure it out. I am thinking that 16 might be too much. Going down and inch or two might even help your top end.

So if the tach is hooked up properly, and we think it is, I am only getting 3500 RPM's right now WOT with the 16" on it. I have a guy getting me a 13 to try out for tomorrow.

You may have to drop to a 10 or 11. You need to get it to at least 5000 or 5200 to do its best. A 13 will most likely put you at about 4200 which is better then 3500.

Spur, my Yamaha 90 horse 4 stroke turns about 5200 with a 17 on it. Loaded with fuel, myself & one other person, it runs about 28 - 32 mph. It was consistently 30-32 but my prop has a few chew marks on it now. Just thought I would throw that in as an FYI.

And by the way, I am loving your boat. I'm thinking it is ready for at least a 75 pounder huh....

So my quest for the proper set-up is ongoing. Taking in all the ideas I have heard, I concluded that the tach was working, and the prop was too large. I called Performance Propeller this AM and talked to Tim. He thinks a 13 would be the best, and is not sure at all my tach is working properly, saying if all I was getting was 3500 RPM's, the boat would essentialy be stationary. :( I really dont look forward to dropping a $100 on a tach, but its looking like I need to before going any further.

I'm no expert by any means but I would find it very difficult to believe that big pontoon would run 23 mph at 3500 rpm too. Bite the bullet and spend the money for a tach that you know is right.

Be sure to let us know spur. A friend of mine has a 24 footer with a honda 75 on it and he is suppose to let me know tonight what prop he is running. Hopefully that yours will be there where it needs to be.

Its just a standard 3-blade aluminum prop, said he had several to choose from and they were all the same price. BTW, this is not a Honda specific prop or anything, it has an insert, the old prop is actually a Merc brand. emoScratch

Well, mixed results. I could not get the tach to read ANYTHING.....dont understand that at all. But, the prop is turning way different than that ol 16 pitch. So much it cavitates when it really gets cracking, so now I have to LOWER the dang motor back some to get it a better bite. Oh well, more tme on the water is in order. emoBigsmile
