The Motor Issues Saga Continues...

Ok, I have read up a little on the "Converging Ring" that it's missing from my boat. This ring attaches to the hub of the prop on the exhaust end of the prop. I can't find where it says anything about one being on a Shooter prop. Is that the ring that j it's missing?

the ring attaches to your lower unit ,behind your prop is where it goes .its a plastic ring go see performance propellers in soddy daisy ,they will have it hanging on the wall and can help describe what it will do and how it should fix your problem with prop blow out

Well she is in Joey's hands now. Maybe next week he will have her running smoothly. Oh yea, I installed the weed ring as it's called. We will see how that works out when Joey is thru with her. emoSmile

Well I heard back from Joey today, seems she is ready to come home, or strait to the lake is more like it. Let's see how this goes.

Well, I know this is getting to be a long post but I'm basically using it as a journal. Now, I picked up my boat Friday evening and went to the lake. Success! She runs much better and starts right up. THANKS TO JOEY at Chattanooga Marine. Stupid Timer Base! The grass ring I installed THANKS TO 275prostratos also helped with the hole shot issue of the prop blowing out. But the hole shot was so slow, took too long to roll out on plane. So I did what I thought I should do, I raised the jack plate back to 3" below the keel at the transom, as it was originally. So on Saturday morning I took her back out and hole shot was much improved! Still not like it should be I believe. With my gear case break in period at the 6 hour mark I can now make short full throttle runs. Now I have known all along I may not have the correct prop on the boat, Shooter 13.25" x 27p 4 blade, and I am looking to resolve that. I either need a Trophy, TXP or Raker II probably in the 24 to 25 pitch range according to Performance Prop. NOW, I did notice another slight issue after all this was the heavy torque to the right when running over 40 mph. I did as you should and adjusted the tab to the right and that took care of a lot of it. Now I have noticed once I'm over say 45 mph 5500 r's, I feel as if the steering sits down and is real heavy like something is locking down and it's just hard to steer to the left and right. Now I'm not sure if I should go up more with the jack plate or what. I do know what going down will do. But now I think about it, I wonder, is the jack plate is where it is and the grass ring removed due to this heavy steering, removing the grass ring would let the prop "slip" more possibly not causing this heavy steering and also only allowing 56 mph at 5900 r's before I installed the grass ring, now I get about 48 mph at 5900 r's, I do know that 27 p is too much prop. emoScratch

Well she won't hardly plane out at 3.5" maybe it's all prop issues then... And rack and pinion steering...

something is not right, the lower you go the better hole shot it should have . are you sure your measuring your prop shaft height right . the cavitational plate should be level with bottom of the hull

South599 I'm pretty sure it's not bent anywhere, I don't feel any vibrations at all. 275prostratos, I believe I am, I placed a straight edge along the keel of the transom, below the offset that most modern boats have. then I looked up the measurements from my factory service manual for the prop shaft center line to the bottom of the cavation plate, then some math ensued, and I calculated it to be 3" below. Oldman, last time I checked the link and sync adjustments the throttle was going to wot marks on the throttle plate for my motor according to the service manual. An as far as James is concerned he is always very busy, I just try to figure things out for myself, "with a little help from my friends..." And Performance will let me test props if I could afford $470 for a new SS TXP. Last time I checked with Tim, I believe it is, that was the price range he said. They didn't have any used/refurbs at the time. I know it's just a trial and error thing.

Well, new prop Raker 24X14.5, lowered a half inch. Hole shot is decent and top speed is still not over 50 GPS and turning about 6500. I'm thinking this boat don't have 60 mph in it. Going to drop it another quarter of an inch or more. It felt as if I couldn't or didn't have to trim it up much or the r's would surge like the prop was too far out of the water. 275prostratos, anyone, any ideas?

Floor it on take off...does it blow out? If so, lower it until it stops. Then trim it up slowly watching seed and rpms.I had a Stratos 285 and hit 64-65.

Buoy-Master, no it doesn't blow out when I hammer it. After I'm on plane though it feels like I don't have to trim up much the R's rise easily. I have about another 1.5" to the bottom then the jackplate is just a setback. emoScratch
