Brent & I got home early Sun. A.M. after a fun 2 days at the Triton event. Got to see the Elite weigh-in before the meeting Thurs. afternoon. Was told when we walked in & Earl Bentz told us that a guy named Rogie Brown was leading after Day 1. I told him to go ahead & crown him the new champ cause if he'd located offshore fish like that everybody else was fishing for 2nd. Turned out I was right. Congrats to Rogie. He is one great deep water fisherman. Our area was represented great. Rogie won & Tony Townsend of Soddy Daisy finished 2nd.
We started fishing the TOT on Fri. We found 5 or 6 long points & during practice, but most all of the 350 boat field seemed to be doing the same thing, so we went to plan B. Headed upriver & pitched jigs to willows, cypress & buck brush on islands with wind blowing on them. The best ones were close to a channel.
We couldn't stay with the guys that really had good deep patterns going, but we had a good showing. Ended up in 16th place with 34.32# and the 4th biggest fish for the tourney at 6.22#.
