I havent been turkey hunting in years but I am itching to get out this year after I was out above raccoon mountain fishing this weekend and there were 2 gobblers going back and forth. I was wondering if anyone out there wanted to help me get back into it. I don't really know what WMA I should try to hunt or if there is any public land I should check out. If anyone has a place to go or wouldn't mind me tagging along let me know!

CHECK TWRA HUNTING GUIDE PRINTICE COOPER HAS SEVERAL OPEN HUNTS AND LOTS OF BIRDS, ONE WORD OF CAUTION WATCH FOR SNAKES ON THE RIGHT DAY THEIR OUT ON THE PROWL. GOOD LUCK FROM THE BASSFOX.

Bassfox is correct, there are alot of overlooked birds at P.C. WMA but they are wild and you have to be ready to work for them. There are always birds in Mullins Cove that never get bothered because most dont have the kahonies to go in after them. Check the TWRA link and download the guide, there are several open hunts within an hours drive or so. If you work hard, getting a bird isn't too hard these days. Good Luck!

PC has a few birds but the are small and have very little beards. Uh yeah and most of them are blind, deaf, and mute. Jk it is a good place to hunt but be very patient because they get pressured quite a bit, even in mullins cove.

Can you hunt from a boat? Meaning can I park my boat along the river and get out and walk into prentice cooper?

Can you hunt from a boat? Meaning can I park my boat along the river and get out and walk into prentice cooper?

You can do that but you must be sure that you are on WMA property. You will need a Prentice Cooper area map and find the many areas where the WMA extends down to the river. Be sure and read it right. If I were you, I would drive around the road along the river and ID areas where the WMA extends to below the road. If you find where birds are using, mark a good docking point on your GPS. That way when you go there to hunt before daylight you can zero in on your spot.

Your GPS will also help you locate the areas marked on the WMA map by comparing the layout of the land to your GPS basemap. Once you pinpoint your location in relation to the WMA map, you will be able to find the bounderies.
