what is your best reel

I mostly like to drag football jigs, flip soft plastics, trow top waters and sometimes will throw cranks.
The Quantum reels i have are the mid range price $125 and I have one Shimano Curado I use for flipping.
These reels are good to go, but I purchased 5 Bass Pro Shop $70 reels when I first started seven years
ago and now they are junk. Would like to replace the BPS reels. Looking to spend $130 or so apiece.
Thanks for the info will look into all these. Wish you could try out some reels for a week before you buy.

I'm not really married to any particular brand. But Abu Garcia Ambassadors have proved very long-lasting and reliable for me. And I've more recently become a fan of Okuma's as well.

Amen Richard. Ive got about 5 Ambassador 5500 C3s, and some older 6000, and 6500s and they are all tried and true. Very smooth and reliable in my opinion. Havent tried many others though. I just always threw what Daddy had as a lil'n and I guess it stuck....

As for a spinning reel, I am a HUGE fan of Daiwa. Ive got a few older SS1300s and they are still to this day the best Ive ever thrown. Ive got a few Shimanos as well and they are nice, but I LOVE my Daiwas. Looking at one of those new 1500s.....

Phflueger Supreme or President (baitcaster and spinning). Love those reels. I have one team diawa that is decent and I suckered in and bought the Revo premier earlier in the year and I hate that reel especilly for 260$$$. Phflueger or Diawa.

I used to be strictly a Shimano guy, especially Curados. I also really like Quantum Energy PT Burner, Browning Midas and any of the higher end Diawas.

Of course after looking at the new Shimano Curado E series, I may need to switch over to them when they come out.

Shimano Tekota 600. I can snatch a 30 pound blue catfish from 60 feet of water in under a minute. emoBigsmile

I tend to buy and use Ambassador 4600s. You can buy them new or almost new dirt cheap on ebay, they last forever and there are parts everywhere and the innerds are almost the same as they were 20 years ago so everyone that works on them knows them well. They work just as well if almost as well as the high dollar reels but I can get 2 or 3 or 4 of them for the same price as one of the shiny new ones. I go for quantity and quality when I get them. It works for me. Now all I have to do is find rods to put my reels on.

My best reel would be my Team Daiwa Z Yellow reel but that is a custom and doesn't see action that much. Other then it I would have to say either the Daiwa Zillion or the Steez. Both are awesome reels and with all the new gear ratios out in the Zillions there is a perfect reel for each application.

I say the daiwa SOL. I have three of them with custom rods made to my spec. They throw really good and no back lash. I think there better than the zillion. If you dont think there know good then just read the reviews at Bass pro shop.com. Theres not one bad review on this reel like the others have. Other than that you cant go wrong with zebco 33. LOL You can buy it at walmart and use it and take it back all in the same day. Its like free rental. LOL

Sol's are supposed to be great reels, but you can't really compare them to a zillion. A Sol is built for light weight fishing, more of a finesse style of fishing, a zillion is more for power fishing. I doubt you could go wrong with either of them though.</p>

Calcutta 201 TEDC

With my Castaway launcher I can spool it with a 1/2 oz. lipless crankbait. Eleven ball bearings, there is none smoother. Two years and the only backlashes I have had, is when I hit something midflight(slow thumb)ie. bridge pier, another boat(too close) or my partner in the back of the head..... emoRedface
