my 10 yr old son caught a 23" and a 22.5" bass out of our pond this spring, one on a bluegill, one on a 12" trout that we stock for winter time fun

I hate to have to admit this but the story on that big largemouth is really pretty sad. When I was a Teenager I lived on the property that is now the Battlefield Golf Coarse near the park. I would ride my bike all the way to Rock Springs, GA beyond Peavine Ridge where I fished a swampy lake owned by Carl Clark. The lake was full of big bass. You could see them swimming around the lilly pads and through the huge tree roots. These fish were very smart but I had figured them out. The sad part is that I would bring them home and eat them. I would release all the fish that I caught that were less than Eight pounds so they could grow up but I would take out the biggest ones.

That day I had ridden all the way from my home to the lake. I caught two big bass that I put on the stringer to bring home. The ride home was a nightmare. The road over the ridge from the lake was an old rutted out gravel road full of holes and loose gravel. I had a huge bass hanging from each end of the handle bars. As I would get moving the fish would get to swinging and start getting into the spokes. I crashed so many times that I had to basicly walk all the way home. Every time I would get close to a creek or any water, I would stop and soak the fish. At the corner of Old Ringgold Rd and Burning Bush Rd there was an old store called Beavers Store. I would stop there and weigh my fish on their produce scale. After about three hours of a long hot bike trip the Bass weighted 12lbs-3ozs and a little over 9lbs-+ozs. I had pictures of MANY big trophy Bass from those years. but over time the album got lost. Therefore proving it is impossible.

The big 6lbs-15ozs Kentucky Spot was given to Bud Hull through John Miles to be mounted and used as a promo display. It came from the same pond as all the other big Bass I took from there. I now wonder how many of those fat Eight Pound plus Bass were actually Spots. Mr Clark told me that the Bass were Kentucky Black Spotted Bass. I did know the differance. That is the main reason I broght the 7 lber to John Miles. It was to let him, Jim Rivers and Lee Hollyfield tell me if the fish in that pond were big Spotted Bass. "They were".

I am going to take my GPS and retrace the route of my old bike ride and get the milage. I may fish the old pond again. I had heard that the pond had nearly dryed up and some boys had netted all te fish out. That would really be sad.

13 lbs 7oz, CA Delta, back when I had a mulletemoSmile
