For those who care and if this interest you. here are some pics of what we did to Ditchdocs Merc. Cleaned up the intake passages, took 7CC's of the heads and machined the intake to easily accept the boyeseen reeds and a few other things. Got it all back together and running and found the lower adapter gasket was leaking and water was coming out of the engine mount. Had been for a while due to the whitness marks (rusty substance) Had to take all the way down to the trim assembly. Replaced the gaskets and broken motor mounts plus I actually got a picture of Doc working!!!!LOL!!!

Pictures

1) #1 piston coked up. Cause of high leakage

2) #1 piston after bead blast

3) block torn down

4) block after cleaning

5) Heads machining 7cc's off

6) Mercury blocks get alot of wear from the sealing ring rotating. The sharp edges accelerate this wear. Simple solutiion to slow it down is to just knock off the sharp edge

7) Intake after maching screw slots

8) This is the all the parts layed out for assembly

9) Block assembled

10) Having to replace the adapter gasket

11) DOC WORKING!! DO YOU BELIEVE THIS??????????

12) The boyesen reeds

It will yield around 145PSI. Up from 125-130. Doesn't sound like much but you can ask doc if he can tell it. It is the single most inexpensive thing you can do. It is a modificatiion you can feel in the seat of your pants. Best bang for the buck. He will not see the full effect untill it is broken in. He got 3 hours on it today and he said he only has to barely push the trottle to come up out of the hole where before he had to floor it and it took a few seconds. He is already tickled!!

After all the fixing and refixing we did yesterday today was all worth it except for the cold, got to put 3 hours of break-in on the motor and that thing is stronger that it has been in a long time,it even came out of the hole with James riding with me and never had to use much of the hot foot emoLaugh Thanks james for all you did for me and hanging till midnight last night getting my baby back together will post more later but cold and hungry and need a hot shower

I'm warm!!!!emoLaugh You are quite welcome. emoWelcome Finally glade to see you have quit emoBawl over you baby. She is home now!!!!!! emoDance

James, gotten 3 hours so far, now I'm off friday sat and sunday so with 70 degree weather and wife @ work, I'll be on the water. Mine is running great!!! I've been trying to get my neighbor to come talk to you he hurt his powerhead and I told him your the best. I'm just trying to get mine to plane out better right now with two people in it, but working on the adj. Anytime on the help james if you need anyhing else, just call.

Thanks buddy, get with me after you gets your broke in. They just keep getting stronger as the rings seat plug the timing being retarded. May have to play with you set up to get it to come out better once it is broken in. How does it feel knowing you built it? Rewarding isn't!!

James, I read all your post and don't know a darn thing about motors but it sure seems you do :) Always nice to hear good things folks have to say about you and your always there jumping in when folks have a problem.
If I ever have a problem, I will sure be hollaring at you buddy.

Taz,
JUST got off the phone with a engine builder who builds the 60* loopers. He gave me some info on how to wake them up. He has gotten the dyno sheets to back up his infomation so it is reliable. Looking at about 65-75hp increase. Alot of it is the same as I do to the mercs to "wake" them up. Later!
