I am truly amazed. I felt that the jury would convict of a lesser charge (manslaughter) since the judge gave them the opportunity. I am very pleased that they (in my opinion) followed the law rather than bow to the pressure to convict of something to please the community. Of course, he and his family will likely be in jeopardy for some time until the tempers have time to cool.

I am pleased with the out come the hole thing was bs the man done what any man women child should have done butt you can bet it ant over but I have a question I thought it is better to be to be tried by 12 than carried by 6 how come Zimmerman did not have 12 can some one explain thanks

I think the right verdict was turned in. Even the prosecution, way before civil rights activist got involved, KNEW they didn't have a case. If something is missing from all this, it will one day come about and Zimmerman will answer...either to GOD or the people. But based off the facts given, I, 100 percent agree, with the 6 WOMEN that acquitted him.

How can so many law enforcement experts from every given race, all say that the Stanford investigation was done right and that even under their jurisdiction, this would have never went to trial either.

Prayers still go out for the family of T Martin and G Zimmerman. Unavoidable tragedies happen everyday.

Very well said.

The jury did the right thing without a doubt. Had this been a reversal of the races.....a black man shooting a white man that was trying to beat him to death, no one would have raised an eyebrow. Sad this happened of course, but maybe this will be a lesson for thugs.....the person you decide to jump and mug, rob and steal from, just might be armed. Better think twice.

I agree with the verdict, the evidence did not support the charge. However we do need to all remember that a young man was killed in all of this. If Zimmerman had never gotten out to follow him, had never gotten so close that the confrontation would have never taken place, if he had done what the dispatcher at 911 told him to do, this young man would be alive today. How would you feel if it was your son or daughter? I do see both sides and the family of Martin would be upset. They lost their son.

I do think all these folks that are going on about it now need to stop and move on. I am more upset with the aftermath then the actual trial. I also feel that if it had been a black man with a Hispanic young man that was shot this all would have been over a long time ago. I believe by keeping this going we are just giving those with hate in their souls more the reason to fuel the fires on both sides. emoTskTsk Jmax

Jmax is right, Martin didn't jump him. He was walking to his dad's house and Zimmereman was following him. If Zimmerman had done what the dispatcher told him to do , this wouldn't have happened. Instead he got brave because he had a gun. He started it, was getting his butt whipped, then shot to kill. Big wuss IMO. I know I'm new around here and this statement will probably keep a lot of you from wanting anything to do with me but so be it.

Zimmereman went against the 911 dispatcher because he had a gun. He was not jumped, or mugged, or threatened in any way, until he approached Martin. Learn the facts.

I respect your opinion backlasher, but it obvious you didn't enlighten yourself with the facts of the case. Martin did in fact attack Zimm and was beating him to death, hence the jury believed the self defense plea and didn't find him guilty of any charge.

From what I gathered in testimony, Zimmerman initially followed (within the law in Florida), then was confronted by Martin as he was returning to his car. Martin had four minutes in which to keep walking, but chose to confront Zimmerman. BTW...If I feel my life is in danger as someone 10 inches taller with a much longer reach is slamming my head on the concrete, he should expect to receive multiple rounds if I can get to my sidearm.

In the end, Billy is right. A person died, and one's life is ruined. We should pray for all involved and their families.

I totally agree with what Dropshot and Spur said. Anyone has the right to walk on the streets or sidewalks, and follow someone that is acting suspect if they like. There is no law against it and I'd certainly do it if I saw a strange person, with a hoodie, and Lord knows what else, skulking down my street at night. What Dropshot brought up was the telling fact, Martin had 4 minutes to run home, call 911, explain who he was, keep walking and ignore Zimmerman or do a dozen different things. He didn't do any of those. He turned and from testimony in the trial, leaped out of the bushes and hit Zimmerman in the face, knocking him to the ground. How do I know that is true? Zimmerman was injured and Martin was not. That is what I kept coming back to and there was no way to hide that fact. Zimmerman was acting EXACTLY like a neighborhood watch captain, or for that matter any concerned citizen, would in any community in America. At the end of the day, following someone is not a crime. Regarding someone as suspicious and calling the police is not a crime. Carrying a gun for personal protection is not a crime. Assaulting someone is. And Martin paid the ultimate price for that. In the end it is a horrible end for everyone involved.

Okay, so Martin threw the first punch. The point is, Zimmerman should have let the police handle the situation like the 911 dispatcher told him. I don't care if he was neighborhood watch, when we have a bunch of gun carrying yahoos like Zimmerman running around, people get killed. I really don't believe he would approached Martin if he weren't packing and looking to use his weapon at the first opportunity. I am a gun owner and support the right to carry, but Zimmerman felt empowered because he had a gun, otherwise he stays in his vehicle and waits on the cops. Just sayin, now back to fishing.

"If I had a son, I would want him to be just like Travon Martin....President Obama. NICE RACE BAITING...O'Great DIVIDER. Your probably going to see the the aftermath of your statements.

The prosecutors overcharged Zimmerman; happens all of the time. Watching th press conference on CNN Sat night and the woman DA says this "was never about race"?????

Why then can four black people brutally torture and then murder two white college students in Knoxville, and it never gets past the local news?

Folks, the so-called activists ( antagonists really) and the media are perpetuating this division, and we're letting it happen. I know for a fact that blacks and whites can be friends; I've seen me do it all my life

AMEN to that! I would never have thought that a President would be sticking his nose in and making a public statement of his opinion in a civil, state matter! He should worry about other more important issues ... like his golf game!
