fishing times

Sometimes it is better to understand daily movements of fish. These movements are more based of fish and their prey fish and the temperature and oxygen levels they prefer. Although ocean fish are influenced by the moon and its gravity (tide level), I believe conditions of light and temp affect...

Lake Junior water levels and shoreline maintenance

Lake Junior has been flooding more and more. Last year there were heavy rains in January, Lake Junior rose like the lake did but did not recede when Chickamauga’s level was brought down. I did not have concern as the water level stayed about the level of the drain was...

    Duckett Fishing rods

Commenting on the following quote . . . "(In fact, our first production run of MICROMagic rods was almost pushed back to June. Our manufacturing company is so busy building rods for other U.S. manufacturers, we had to jump through hoops to fit in our production.)" So, are all the rods coming...

Bartlett Brothers Busted for Crappie Violations

What is the deal with these reduced charges? I pay general license fees with trout endorsement every year, pick up the regulation guide every year so I may have a quick and accurate reference. Download pdf regulations guide so I may use electronic search of that guide. And I would expect a...

    Dacron. Dacron?

Dacron is still used as fly line backing, there are backing replacements like gel-spun. I still prefer the Dacron because it fills up the arbor well. Dacron was used by many well after nylon mono entered the market, but mono was pricey then. Once today's super braids get a lot cheaper Dacron...

Cast Your Vote on Bass & Trout Size Limit Proposals

Hey rsimms, Do you know if the TWRA biologists have posted online the reasons why they are proposed the current set of of changes? I will respect any evidence based decision to improve a fishery. But fisheries sometime will not respond at all to regulation, leaving the increased restrictions...

Want to see what the new Chickamauga Dam will look like??

Does anyone know why it is designed to protrude so far out into the river side. It looks like it could be half as long and still get the locking of barges done at its larger volume.

Where did all the big ones go?

They seem to have got smart all of a sudden. Guess they realized that hard plastic bait fish with rattles inside and 10 inch long, 3/8 inch thich worms aren't real. I've caught 4 this summer with live shiners and shad while cat fishing but nothing for the few times that I was pulling hard...

    What type pole?

The sensitivity and strength have more to do with what fibers it is made of. When the ferule is wedged in right the vribrations communicate through it. Join the ferule, hold the rod normally and barely tap the tip on a hard surface to get a feel of its sensitivity.

It appears that it has to be glued. If it flexes enough it will crumble. The glue will provide support.

possible new world record largemouth caught in Japan

Black Bass was introduced in Japan during US occupation after WWII. The youtube video says it is 10.12 Kg which translates to 22.31 lbs. It may not make it because Dotty caught by Mac Weakley on California's Dixon Lake was just over the record but by the time California DNR arived stress...

    Landing net...

Once you get your new net. You should consider cutting a nerf noodle about 5 in long and sliding it up the handle. 5 in is enough to keep my net floating.

    BlueBack Curiosity

Thank all for the comments. I worried because I prefer living live bait, and the possesion and transport of live bluebacks is illegal. I caught an alewife and eventually determined it was not a blueback through the snout length/eye socket rule. They are just a few locks away and could easily...

    BlueBack Curiosity

I'm wondering if any of you folks who are using bait catching methods (castnets, dipnets, whatever) have caught blueback herring in the Chickamauga Resivior and verified it according to TWRA's River Herring Key?
thanks anyway

    Flushin the turbines...

I believe that jasper is on tho something. The deep water ahead of the dam does not get much oxygen deep into it. As these fish have pooped non-floaters it sinks and just sits there. Eighty thousand plus cfs has not been seen in a while so some junk is finally been picked up off the bottom...
