Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Wrechin2 turned me loose for a fifteen second burst this afternoon.

running at 3500 rpms 34.3 miles per hour, full throttle burst for fifteen seconds while trimming up.

6800 rpms @ 66.8 miles an hour

I am still looking for the sweet spot on the hydralic jackplate and need more time to tune it in. Can't wait emoEvil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

6800!!!!! You must have been too high and was slipping. We will get it dialed in.......

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

We will get it dialed in so you can hold it and adjust the height. It was slipping to turn 6800 but it is nice to know it will turn those RPM"S quickly. Can't wait to see what it does with the chopper!!!

RE: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

With the finish on brake-in I went down to James' for a dialing in session. James changed the idle jets and the main fuel jets andadjusted the timing with the help of Auburnwes. We loaded up some props and headed for the lake for a test session. James had me run a shut down test where you run the boat up to 5000 rpms trim it out and go for about five minutes. Then the fun starts:after approx. five minutes James yells trim down and cut the key off. Turn the key off and jump to the front of the boat to keep a stern wave from running all over the boat.emoLaugh While in mid-lake we pulled the top two plugs and checked for fuel on top of the pistons or lack of. I am running a little lean so we are going to have to increase the main fuel jets several thousands.

Next was a prop test session. My current prop, a Tempest 26, has become a real dog out of the hole. We tried several different props, chopper 26, chopper 22, lazer 25, all three had good whole shots.

Chopper 26: good hole shot, 6200 rpms, ran straight and level

Chopper 22: great hole shot, 6500 rpms, ran straight and level

Lazer 25: strong level hole shot, 6200 rpms (chine walked at wot)

emoEvil All prop tests were conducted in the dark on a closed courseemoCool man, what a rush!!!!!!!!

It was great to meet Auburnwes and oldman101. Ask Wes about the "beepin" motor that just magically appeared on his bullet.emoScratch

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Got mine to quit overheating..... Still low pressure. Running the 23 laser it was hitting the limiter at 6800 out of the hole and alot worse hole shot than the 26 chopper. It took a WHOLE boat lenth to come out instead of 1/2!!!!!!! Playing around and got 70 with it and was still pulling like a freight train. Last night we hit 65 at 1/2 throttle with the 26 chopper and it lifts the boat alot better and run alot faster with less throttle. I can't wait to get it broke in!!!!

Wes is loving it but thinks we will build the snot out of the 2.0L. He saw the one from KY run today that I built run today and he seemed very impressed with what the small engine can do, but he does love the brute power of mine on his boat!! From what you saw how do you think mine wil run when I put it on my 350# hull????

Did you run today??????

RE: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

It was great meeting you! Thanks again for the dress, without a doubt a life saver, it was cold!

It was amazing... Bam a modified motor! I hope the person that put it there doesn't think there getting it back!emoPoke emolaugh

It was amazing to see what these motors can do! emoEvil

That 2.0L was impressive, sounded great. Now we just need to get mine there. The 2.5 has the umph, incredible hole shot, and amazing sound! The fact that its not even broken in and still screams fascinates me! Now if I can get it broken in before James goes to far with his "test" runs! emoLaugh

Good seeing you again Larry, don't think this baby is going to magically appear on your boat! I've become attached. emoPoke emoCool

Carl good luck with the tourney, let us know how the 26 chopper does with the full load!

RE: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

I made it through the week without blowin' the motor. The new fuel mileage is just cooking my brain. I pre-fished three days ,only using 15 gallons of fuel. On the second tournament day I ran 45 miles using only ten gallons of fuel.(4.5 mpg) The first twenty miles on Sat. were ran at 5800 (68 miles per hour with a full tournament load and two people). The motor will turn 6700 to 6800 but the conditions Sat. were not conducive to WOT. I changed the main jets to 86/1000's from 82 and seemed to increase upper engine RPM's with less strain. I still need to run another shut down test and check the plugs. Through the week I made a couple of trips into long no wake zones (Caney Creek Marina) and when I reached the end and punched it I had immediate throttle response with no hesitation. I am really impressed with the carbs that Wrechin2 chose for my motor. At this point I am glad to be EFI free.......

Thanks James for a good motor emoWorthy

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

I want my prop BACK!!!!! LOL!!!!!! We just need to swap out the idle jets and tweak a little more. I found out that that your prop on Wes' boat don't go well. Runs like a tug boat. NO lift!!!!!???????

Glad to hear you are happy with it. Those carbs are very good top end carbs. The added fuel mileage and power can be attributed to the many mods done to it. The $$$$ you spent on mods will be repay you soon in what you are saving in fuel and with fuel prices creeping up, it will be well worth it.

Keep me up to date!!!!!!

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

I was just doing a little cost comparison With the current fuel prices for premium and a 40:1 fuel ratio I am probably braking even. At three miles per gallon of fuel the total cost would be $1.11 per mile, but at 4.5 it costs me $0.74 per mile. Over a hundred miles the cost savings would be 37.00 dollars. I should brake even at about 10,000 miles....emoEek
