Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

James, I put the worked 22 on this afternoon. In two and a half lengths I was up, level, and twisting, really liked the hole shot. The motor is twisting to the moon on the top end. First run (with two people and tournament load) she hit 8000 and even with a 700 rpm bias that still is 7300 (held it for just about three seconds). Didn't push it after that but I will report back with some results on longer runs this week.

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

7300 RPM"S !!! At 15% slip that should be around 72.3.... Dont let it go past 7400 for long. That is the weak link with the pistons. Does it pull hard??? LOL!!! 26 chopper with the cup and roll should be the ticket on it. We just basicly want to make sure it doesn't BLOW out hard and get a bite. I still want to change the idle jets and lean it out a little more on bottom. Should make it pull your prop a little harder out of the hole.

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Whoa Whoa Nelly .. Im freaking getting stoked to get my stuff over to you James, I will have the 200hp and hopefully the other 150hp by the end of the week.. What others parts do I need to get for this chop, stuff, drop and flame shooting out the exhaust mod/rebuild ? And when can we get to working on it .. I want to help with the rebuild as much as I can .. tear down.. what ever you need to get this rolling as soon as possible .. If I can get the 97 Astro F20 that Im trying to get .. it already has Jackplate, and controls just needs new steering cables, well that and cleaned and carpet.. and it may paint the top cap too .
The blue flake .. dont know if I can live with that much blue flake lol
Then I can run with the big dawgs

Well I can run with them in my boat .. but really wanted a 20 or 21 when I got the Hydra

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Read my post in the classifieds on yours Sean. I can make it have horsepower but because of it CI displacment, it will not have the torque needed to move a heavier boat. It will push it, but it will work it's butt off. The 2.4 or 2.5 is better suited for heavier boats. Soemthing to consider.

As far as parts go, we need the 2.0L block and heads then the front off a 2.4 200, the intake and use the 2.0L carbs. We are basicly putting together a 120 SST engine.

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Understood on the top end......I was watching the water pressure and not the tach. The modifications I made on the water intake is just crazy, running along at 35.6 mph the water pressure is reading 16-18 lbs., put a little boot in it and it jumps to 22-23 psi. I see some elevation in my future.

The little prop has some good vibrations, 8000 puts goose bumps down your spine.

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Hey James, I got out a little sunday with the 26 tempest. Two things, one you are right the tempest Plus is a barge prop. Two, I agree that we need to down size the idle jets. I caught some good fish though....

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Actually increase.... They draw in air only, so the larger the jet, the more air that is allowed in. I have a set of .056's. That should do us some good. So the chopper has spoiled you???LOL!!!!

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

My dad has the same boat with 225optimax its got a 27chopper running 75mph it only turns 5750rpm yours should fly at 7300rpm

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

A 225 OPTI is a 3.0L with different gear ratios keeps the RPM lower. It would be a 28 or 26 as the "TRUE" choppers are in even numbers. The smaller CI have to turn more RPMs to make power thus higher gears. The bigger engine produce shear torque. Like comparing 2nd gear to 4th gear with the opti being in 4th so with the same prop, it turns lower rpms with higher speeds.

Re: Carl Gufey's Modified 2.5 200

Not true on the chopper you can go up or down a pitch each pitch is 250rpm but u can't exceed more than 3 pitchs

A true chopper are in Even pitches like 22,24,26,28,and 30 pitches. Not 23,25,27,29 unless it is a chopper copy or has been repitched.
