MORE DEAD FISH

They need fizzed again.

I worked recovery tank this past weekend at CBA..I was amazed at what those tanks can do. BUT..I can tell you that most of those bags poured out inside the stand,(the water drains outside the stand) had good cold water...some had lake water as hot as 80 plus degrees. Like I said (and others) it STARTS before you blast off! Ice the tanks, add the chemicals and take care of those fish.

First off, I got a bunch of hits on my website from this post so knew someone must have linked my site. Thanks to those that ordered and whoever it was that posted.

I've been working with Marine Biologist Lane Gergley of Sure-Life labs (Catch and Release), as well as Dr. Tuft's lab in Queen's University specifically on the subject of delayed mortality of fish from tournamnets. Sure-Life has developed practices that work great, she has all of the data from a huge tournament on Falcon Lake TX a couple months ago. I'll see if I can get her to post the protocol here.

So far I've found that fizzing is probably the best way to deal with deep caught fish, but there are risks-too much air, not enough air, or a miss with the needle. We've been using the Flip Clip for many years too, it's another tool in the tournament fisherman's box to help reduce delayed mortality. I've both fizzed a fish and clipped him before too. I've caught fish in 5 feet of water that have shown the same signs as a distended air bladder, (doesn't need fizzzed) stress can do the same thing to a bass. The clips have worked well in this situation too. We're in the time of year now that keeping your fish alive and healthy requires so much more attention.
Thanks again and I'll contact Lane to see if she'll put in her 2 cents here.
