I use five gallon bucket and set PVC in the bucket at varies angles. The PVC is hollow and will not return sonar echo, but you better create a weight point on your GPS or you will never find it. Over time the algea grows on the PVC and you know the reset of the story, and its safe for the environment. emoAngel

If all of this comes together, I would like to help in some way. Not sure what it would be but let me know. I think it would be pretty cool to help make our lake even better with the understanding that it is still public water.

I just read an article in Crappie Wold magazine in which several agencies were spoken to, including the TWRA. They said that PVC and other such materials should be used sparingly due to their longevity. They prefer habitat that will deteriorate over time. Also, the article said that man made structure can do more harm for the fish than good as there is no scientific evidence that man made structure do more than concentrate the fish allowing more to be pulled out and can hurt the overall population. That being said, I would love to help in anyway possible as long as the TWRA is included in all plans.

Also of note, they said the structures are more attractive for crappie, if it is standing timber as opposed to a brushpile and the less dense the better...

So does the cover that JFT is showing best for crappie??</p>

It would be better than a brush pile. For Crappie. The article said that bass prefer dense cover, so it depends on what you are building for.

If you are wanting a crappie habitat, they really gloated on the one Bill Dance designed.

Here is the link to his design, and I especialy like this one quote from it...it really goes along with this thread. </p>

<u>Quote</u>: "Among the saltwater fishermen of the Gulf of Mexico who are after red snappers, sea trout or amberjacks, it is quite common to secure permits so they can tow entire junked school buses (engines removed) to certain locations, sink them and create a virtual fish factory only they know about. Well, for a while anyway; other anglers soon catch on."</p>
