Snake ID

When my parents moved to their 65 acres in Florida to set up a small farm, my Dad, like most, killed every rattler he saw. He was so proud of a big pickle jar full of rattles. Then the mice came. You couldnt walk ten feet in the peanut without seeing a mouse. Ruined his cut hay, and plenty got in the house. He still hates them, checks for them on the equipment, but never kills them..

I used to feel the same way as Hippy97 till I saw a 6 foot long black snake swallowing a 3 foot rattler. Now black snakes are my friends. Sorry guys but if I see a poisonous snake i'm gonna do my best to kill that son of a gun!

I'm going out on a limb here, but I would say you were banned from the BBC for stirring upcrap like this thread! Never mind about the snakes. How about take care of yourself & your family & let others be. </p>

I find it sad that grown men are so scared of snakes that they indescriminately kill all snakes.. that is just a sign of a weak and puny brain.

I wasn't trying to start a fight, I think some others here went that way.
I thought somebody might learn something from the link I posted. I learned a better way to ID the cottonmouth vs the water snake. I hope some of the rest of you enjoyed that portion of this post.

For the record I don't love snakes they give me the heebe jeebies. My old roomate who just retired from the special forces used to pick up every snakes he found to play with it. Not me I leave them alone and walk away with a tightened sphincter, but I let them live.

I am a sportsman and I find that the science of biology is a more impressive argument than the arguments of some guys here.

Totally agree we all have the right to have an opinion. I just don't see why people kill snakes. They will do you no harn if you leave them alone. Sure they may startle you if you come upon one, but does that justify killing? I offer anyone who has a fear or hatred of snakes to meet up with me and we will go out and find a snake or two and then in a controlled manner I will help you get over your fears of them. If I can do that for my wife (which I have), I can do it for anyone.

Huge difference here. They are NOT the same as far as rights go... One is Illegal and unethical while the other is legal and morally correct. You can never compareblatantwrong withbeingright.</p>

If the snakes that come on my land belong to you then you are welcome to come get them. If I see them they are going to be dead snakes if at all possible. Right or wrong legal or illegal end of story. I have a cat to take care of mice so I have no need for snakes..
