I work at VW and stood against the UAW. Im not against unions just the UAW. A few minutes of research would turn anyone against them. Visit no2uaw.com. They even went behind our backs and signed a Neutrality Agreement with VW that guaranteed that the cost of the employees would be less than all auto manufacturers. They also took away our right to strike and if we didn't agree on the contract a third party picked by the union and VW would decide for us. I don't want to ever strike but that would be the only backbone we would have had. How could you trust a third party like this when we have great things already here at VW?

The liberal (therefore slanted) position of the Washington Post is legendary. Anyone reading that rag should realize the truth is somewhere other than on their printed pages. So, I advise you guys to be cautious about believing anything the Post prints. Suspect them from the start and understand the truth will be found somewhere else.

Worked a union job for over 40 years. The non union people sucked on the same teet as the union workers. Yet they couldn't wait to find out what kind of raise they were getting at contract time. Right to work state? Right to be a blood sucking leech.

I think the greatest thing about the whole process is that the employees get to vote on what they want and feel is best for them. It's a true form of democracy. If the VW employees decided they don't want to unionize that's their right and people should respect that. Being bullied by either side is when the worker loses.

I'm not at all surprised by this vote. This worker organization was "put down" by some of the same fear and intimidation tactics used for decades. Billboards were rented by anti-union activists, a US Senator (Corker) was brought in. The Gov. made threats. For what??? to keep 1500 workers from organizing?? I am a proud southerner but it never ceases to amaze me how working class southern folks are so willing to vote against their own financial best interests both with Union hostility and also with who they elect to represent them in Washington. VW is on record as being in favor of their USA plant unionizing, and has also said this vote will have no bearing on their decision on where to build its new SUV. Sadly this is just another example of why the south lags behind the rest of the Nation is so many economic and social categories. It's also not a coincidence that States with a history of being anti-union are typically southern and are behind the rest of the Nation in wages and benefits and tend to lean more heavily on Government Programs to fill in the gaps. Labor Unions built the middle class. The middle class is now shrinking at an alarming rate.... along with Labor Unions.... another coincidence??? I think not.

Where else in chattanooga could a person get a general labor job making $19 an hour with good benefits? The union isn't needed at VW.

Ahem...Production tops out at $21.00 an hour. Plus they get about a 10% bonus every quarter. All workers hired at the big three since 2007 top out at $19.28 thanks to their new pay scale.

The highest paying auto manufacturer in the US is.....Mercedes. A non union plant, in the deep south, in a right to work state.

Yep the South (chattanooga) especially is really lagging behind places like Detroit and Chicago. Give me a break!

Give me a break! The Great State of Tennessee receives $1.27 from the Federal Govt for each $1.00 it sends in taxes... Michigan gets .92 for each dollar and Illinois receives 75cents. Furthermore TN has a higher rate of of folks receiving Welfare and SNAP than Michigan or Illinois.

You can always move to Michigan or Illinios...just sayin ! If Obama keeps it up you may be forced to stay in this terrible state of TN though

Probably cause there's nobody left in thoughs states because the Unions have all ran them out.. But there is really no correlation to unions and not being on Welfare

Wages are better in Chattanooga than they are for new hires in Detroit. Why in the world would they want to unionize and screw that up? Further if you look at what the UAW has accomplished in the last couple of decades why would you as a laborer want them representing you? Also according to a buddy of mine that works at VW they don't care whether there is union representation or a works council made up of labor and management in the plant.

Sniper there IS a direct link with States that are "anti Union" and wages, benefits and economic power. Your failure to recognize it doesn't make it any less true. Those States don't do as well and need the Federal Govt to fill in the gaps. The States that are the most hostile to Labor Unions are the poorest and most needy States in the USA. TN GA MS, KY and AL are among them.

2 or 3 years ago we were forced to take 12 furlough days ( no pay) because of a bad economy that same year our CEO received a 3million dollar bonus for saving so much money, our local took this to arbitration and won ,the company had to back pay us for those days, they were trying to take the first step to making us part time

If u don't like ur job then go find another.. Supposedly we don't even have to worry about insurance now due to Obamacare

Heck..I am retired, but I want to go to work like SANTA CLAUS, there at Hickory Valley & Bonny Oaks, holding that sign. Anybody know what that pays (psssst bet it's coming from union dues)? Need to work on my tan.
