Why don't TX'ers take their kids fishing?

I would hope if one of you all had a comment to make about my personal life, you would come to me and not try to embarrass me on a open forum. The children were named, references were made to who their parents or grandparents were. I didnt watch the video but I recon it identified one of the children. I'm surprised that some of you all think this was ok to do. Thanks for editing it some .

Why don't more tournament guys find time to take their kids fishing. ...

IMO, Some (and obviously not all) can't stroke their ego when they are fishing with their kids. Same reason (ie ego stroking) that they ride around with a half alive fish in their deadwell that they have no intentions of harvesting. IMO if it was about the competition (and not ego) then catch and immediate realease tx would work (ie paper tx), with minimum harm to the bass fishery.

I have always taken all three of my kids anytime they want to go,My son and step-son have started fishing dogfights with me and even had my wife fish one this year on Monday my daughter loves to bream fish and goes with me as much as she can,I think too much pressure is put on people to win and not just enjoy the fellowship of TX on the local level,The bigger ones I can understand but look back at how many big TX you have fished and the money you have won, was it worth it? I like spending the day of a TX with a kid of mine than anybody else and do so often and maybe they will learn something for our future fishing.

My comment on this thread should probably be taken away. In a hurry last nightI just briefly read it and thats my fault. Names of people were mentioned. I let everyone know that I have edited the post for those reason Flip. I agree and appreciate the heads up. This is no place for things like that.

Maybe the thread should be rephrased here guys..."Do you, a Tx Bass fisherman, take your kids fishing enough?" Sorta seems right to me. If someone thinks they need to apologize headed of time and knowing that it might offend someone could be a hint that it should not be posted. I caution anyone doing this. CFF isn't here to point fingers..names or no names.

Thanks!

The only TX that I fish is the Crackerfest, but I do have grandkids that I wish would fish with me more than they do. I took Gabrielle and her grandmother out the other day and she caught her first spot on the first cast and caught another white bass a couple of cast later, then all she was interested in was the dip net and she is 8 years old. My older grandson doesn't want to do any thing but play on the computer.

But, if you want to stir up a hornet's nest, just say something about TX fishing. I think that the less that we discuss Tx's in general, the better that the forum will become. Let the guys that want to participate in Txs have all their fun. It won't take long before they realize that they are missing out on so much more of life and will make adjustments. Let them keep all their "secret" holes and "secret" lures, and "secret" techniques. All that will become bitter in their bellies after awhile and then maybe they will come back to the forum with a better attitude of sharing and helping each other become better fishermen and better individuals in the process. If not, then I don't give a rat's a**. emoGeezer

I expect better from you DK! I fish a lot of tournaments but I also have taken a lot of time to show a lot of people a lot of stuff. Two days ago fishinvol and I were catching 3-4 pounders on every cast when suddenly two 18 year old kids pulled up right next do us with their big motor running and started asking questions. Did we get mad? NO. I waved them over and gave them four brand new DD22's and attempted to show them how to use them. I don't know many non TX guys that would have done that!

You guys need to get your heads out of your A$$ES and quit worrying about tx fishermen so darned much. The day my sons get old enough to fish tx's with me and I still have enough interest to fish them they will be my tx partners.

We need to realize DK, its not ALL tx fisherman. Lance makes a good point and I'm the same way. Maybe those that are members that never post....?

Here's my last post on this. I give reports fairly regular, not as many as some, but more than a lot of others. I post quite a bit of detail in the reports I post, not everything. But, if someone sends me a pm ( which several have) I will give them all the specifics they want. So, I'm really tired of hearing "All Tx fisherman" being bashed on here. I would rather fish a bass Tx than anything, but my boat also gets bream, crappie, catfish, and rockfish loaded into it from time to time. I'm Done!

You missed the point. If you aren't guilty of not taking your kids or sharing info, then what I said shouldn't have offended you. It is only the guys who are so selfish that they wouldn't tell you the time of day, let alone anything that would help someone else become a better fisherman are the ones that my point was addressing. If the shoe fits, wear it, if not, then don't be offended by my comments.

I am basically just saying, let's leave the Tx guys alone and go about our business of sharing on the forum, meeting new guys, developing relationships and etc. Leave the Tx guys alone! Get off their cases! Is that plain enough for you or do I have to draw a better picture?

Selfish people I don't want to know and don't intend to take fishing. I can't say it any plainer than that. emoScratch emoBigsmile emoGeezer

It's funny to see some of you self proclaimed professional TX fishermen get ruffled. Maybe it's because the truth hurts. I love to TX fish but havn't fished but two this year because i take my 5 year old grandson at least two days a week or more if we can and I'd 110 percent rather fish with him than any of you.
It's easy to run your mouth on here and not in person.

I don't know that any one single person called themselves a "pro fisherman", and some get a bit ruffled because a lot of tournament guys get slammed for no reason at all. I agree there are some tournament guys that are complete a**es about things, but then again I have met some bank fisherman that maybe the biggest a-holes I have ever met in my life, for no reason at all. I haven't seen anyone on here run their mouth either, just express opinions. Nothing more nothing less.

I fish txs just to keep the economy up and my daughter used to go with me just to name the bait and then set them free when I was not looking . now she's just to cool to fish with the old man any more

Leave it up to me, a lurker, to think this is a cool thread. Hey, let's keep track of "bashees".
(Not necessarily in any order)

1. Tournament fishermen
2. Pleasure boaters (or shall we be specific and identify jet skiers, water skiers, yacht owners, pontoon boaters, 12 ft boaters with 10 people without life jacketers, etc)
3. Fishermen who keep black bass to eat
4. Trophy keepers
5. The beloved guide
6. Fishermen who try to fish same spot as other fishermen
7. Examiners of photos to steal a spot
8. Photo editors
9. "too close" boaters
10. Fishermen and/or tournament directors who can't tell the difference in a spot and smallmouth
11. The TWRA for having such a weird distinction in the two
12. AH, almost forgot the dreaded COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN
13. Live bait users
14. Fishermen who wear crocks
15. Fishermen who are a crock
16. Uh, LURKERS

There must be more!!

emoUpsmile emoUpsmile emoUpsmile That's great! Not sure I fall under "The beloved guide" entry however. emoScratch Maybe I have missed, or ignored, those threads for a reason. emoBigsmile

The title of the thread says it all.... it's the same ignorant, angry type comment that a racist make about those of another race, "All "blank" are stupid! When we all know full well, that it is not true. I know plenty of tx fishermen that take their kids fishing, other kids fishing and so on. I also know a couple of accomplished fishermen that do not take their kids fishing. Not because they are selfish, but because their kids have other interests.... This is a pretty ridiculous thread in my opinion. And honestly, I don't think it was well thought out. I guess it just goes to show that some people sit around and think up stuff to complain about. And that must be most sad of all.
