Why don't TX'ers take their kids fishing?

Chattanooga Fishing Forum

Help Support Chattanooga Fishing Forum:

I think many Tourney guys may take it too serious. In their defense their is a lot of money on the line in some of the local tournaments.

The good Lord has chosen that I have no kids and will be the first to say that some days I do not want to take anyone with me when getting ready for a tournament. On the other hand, I like to think I also take a lot of time to try and teach younger anglers how to enjoy (notice I did not say excel) the sport. If my niece ever decides she wants to fish you can bet I will be the first one to take her. At age 5, she already has her own pole and has caught some decent bream. Like Lance says, at that age, their attention span is so short...

Did someone say spooottttssss?

Please realize that although I used DK's name in my post that it wasn't meant to be directed necessarily at him. I have known Dickey for many years and my dad and he were friends before I was even born. I have a lot of respect for him.

This type of thread kind of irks me though. Maybe I'm not the kind of tx fisherman people are addressing since I'm only a recreational tx angler and am not in the same league as Rogie, Steve Kite, and some others. I do enjoy it though as I have the same problem fishinvol has. I'm too fat to do anything else and its a good stress release for me. Of course me and fishinvol are about to lose 40 lbs each. Now that we are Team Carrot our new sponsor expects us to look all sexy and thin.

From the time Kevin began fishing at age 6, he was eager to fish for hours on end, and I DO MEAN HOURS. I remember 14 hours in AUGUST at the Pickwick Dam. But we are talking about CRAAZY...

For most kids, time and patience with their short attention spans is the key and equally important are Daddy time and giving Mom a break!

I know I am new to this forum, but guys we live in TN... why do we care about the fishing habits of people that live in TX????

Lance, you know that I wasn't referring to you in my comments. I was just trying to get everybody to quit complaining about TX fishermen and get on with developing this forum to be a place that we can share info, meet new people, learn new ways to fish and new species to fish for. People just nag, nag, nag about everything. That is what irks me. I have known you all of your adult life, (20 days) emoPoke emoPoke emoSmile and your dad and I have played golf together many times, worked together, rode to work together for years upon years.

BTW, I loved Whataspot's post. Hilarious! emoBigsmile emoUpsmile emoGeezer

I don't blame the tx fishermen for not taking the little kids fishing with them, the kids remember the hot holes when they go fishing (kids remember everything)and the next day while playing in the sand box at school, they tell their buddies about the 30 pound sack that daddy caught yesterday, draw diagrams in the sand, then Mr. Johnson, the teachercomes over to the sand box and inquires about what the boys are doing and he gets into the conversation, asking corordinates, landmarks, etc. (you know the kids, they will tell their guts at school)the little kids go home and tell their daddies about the great fishing holes they found out about at school, then it all hits the fan, word spreads like wildfire at school, then everyone and their daddies are trying to fish the hot spots at the same time, nothing is sacred anymore. What else can a txer to do? I wouldn't takethe kidsfishing either.

TX'ers don't take their kids fishing because

[*]Kids do a sucky job netting...that means lost fish[*]Kids fiddle with livewell "buttons" and "knobs"...that means lost fish[*]Kids stomp around and slam lids...that means lost fish[/list]

I could go on and on but to sum it up...kids have no business being in a boat. Leave'em at home with a Gameboy!!!

Ok Jason.....does the word "kids" really mean Bbass? emoBigsmile

Wow! Comparing my calling out Tx'ers that don't take their kids fishing to a racist. Now thats a stretch!

I thought the same thing Danny. Some folks read what they want into a post as well. I read your thread starter and not once did you use the word ALL.

You forgot to list talking on the phone for half of the trip! We need to pitch in and buy him a nice Bluetooth hands free headset so he can do both. Come to think of it, I have an extra one he can have. Then when he gets on the phone with his sweet little wife you can let a HUGE FART and she will blame him.
