Because profit is what motivates healthcare workers to do a good job. It also drives innovation. Look at the wait times for diagnostics of other countries with nationalized healthcare. Look at the increased cancer reoccurrence rates in other countries compared to ours. We also have the best survival rates for cancer than any other country 15% better than Canada and Great Britain mostly because of increased wait times on diagnostics. More people will die of preventative disease with socialized medicine it is no mystery. Have you ever known the gov't to run anything effectively. That is why the free market works better.
Talk about Liberals living in a fantasy land!.... Wow. Most in this country are NOT denied care (no-one is dying in the streets, unless you would like to change that) Insurance pays for some, the Gov't for some, and the rest of us pay the balance thru higher premiums and taxes. Under Sniperchoke's health plan, only the healthy, youthful, and wealthy should have good healthcare. What would you do with senior citizens? Oh, I forgot, they too can purchase healthcare coverage from the "free market system" The free market system has failed the American people when it comes to our health. Here's a few facts for ya. Medical bills are the number one reason for bankrupcy, and home foreclosures (not apr mortgages resetting). Despite having the best hospitals, equipment, and people, the USA ranks 37th in the world, and lags far behind on infant mortality and life expectancy. While boasting the 37th worst healthcare system in the world, Americans spend twice as much as any other devoped nation on healthcare. In 2015, one out of every 5 dollars in our economy will be spent on healthcare. Now, the new medical inovation is NOT being done in the USA. We even get our flu vacines from Europe. As far as the Gov't not being able to run anything.... Give me a Break... We trust the gubment to wage war, manage a nuclear defense system, get SS checks out on-time, manage a healthcare system for our senior citizens and Veterans, (which, by the way is more effecient than the "free market system" health insurance providers). Police and fire services and air traffic control to name a few. Perhaps, you would perfer that the CEO's of Chrysler, Bear Stearns, AIG, GM and Citigroup be put in charge of the Nat'l Park Service, FEMA, the Military and the Fed Reserve. This Libertarian, crap may sound good on paper, or in your fantasy world, but may actually work on another planet.
