churly - 5/9/2012 10:49 AM what was the purpose of the original post?

I don't know the OP, but i suspect he was confused by the rants for either side of the argument when looking at laws and regulations saying differently?

We all need to becarefulwhen posting, as CFF has become a very persuasive resource in the local area. When making the statement that "Speckled belly sap licking bass species A" is an endangered species, just because one angler doesn't catch any, yet many others will say just use a hula popper and you can catch all the Speckled bellies you can want, one of thoseopinionmay possibly become a "fact", albeit, aninternetfact.

Posters bashing any legal method of fishing from TX's to pleasure fishing, to taking them home is not helpful dialog.

jcsanders79 - 5/9/2012 3:10 PM In some venue's several posts in this thread would be considered "elitism"......

We might ought to post this..... emoLaugh

Elitism is the belief or attitude that some individuals, who form an elite — a select group of people with intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.[1]

Alternatively, the term elitism may be used to describe a situation in which power is concentrated in the hands of a limited number of people. Those opposed to elitism are considered supporters of anti-elitism, egalitarianism, populism or the political theory of pluralism. Elite theory is the sociological or political science analysis of elite influence in society - elite theorists regard pluralism as a utopian ideal.

Elitism also refers to situations in which an individual assumes special privileges and responsibilities in the hope that this arrangement will benefit humanity or themselves. At times, elitism is closely related to social class and what sociologists call social stratification. Members of the upper classes are sometimes known as the social elite. The term elitism is also sometimes used to denote situations in which a group of people claiming to possess high abilities or simply an in-group or cadre grant themselves extra privileges at the expense of others. This form of elitism may be described as discrimination.

Not sure about elitism but the "drink another one" comment is certainly childish.

You must understand that people like Churly rely on that fish to be next to that same log come the bass tournament. If the fish is not there and he looses the tournament, then its simple people like you and me are frowned upon by people like Churly. So have three beers, eat the fish, and have sweet dreams-

Its tournament anglers like me that stood up to fight TVA and the chemical assault on Chick. Its tournament anglers like me that put personal time in money into habitat restoration and conservation. And its not so I dont loose the tournament. Its so my daughters and your kids will have a river they can enjoy.

If you buy a license, you have every right to keep what you catch. As long as you obey the limits. I just think its bad taste to make posts that promote the killing and eating of bass. its one thing to do it but another thing to post about it. Its also stupid to make these posts just to stir up people's emotions. This post was a drunk post done late at night and meant to do just that.

You must understand that about the time I got old enough to be able to go to the lake TVA was in the process of killing the fishery. I remember years of terrible spawns, polluted water, and crappy fishing. In 7th grade my class helped on the cypress tree planting project around patton island. In 11th grade my aquatic biology class did a bunch of research and projects studying how to promote fish habitat and water quality. In college I came home to be part of the first stocking of fla strain bass in the lake, and donated money, which I didnt have, to help purchase that truckload of fingerlings. As an adult, after finishing college, I did everything I could to stay involved with conservation and preservation of this river. Much of that was facilitated through this forum. I helped to start the "crackerfest" which was meant to get kids and families more involved in the river. Since I became a CBA officer, I exploited my position to unite anglers to stand up to fight TVA and the spraying of chemicals in our lake. Now, CBA weigh-ins are used as sampling points for TWRA's research of the genetic make up of our black bass population. My point is, I have always been involved with conservation of this body of water and I do frown on people who brag about how many bass they keep and eat. .....

Well said Churly, and I thank you for your efforts to improve our fishery.

I dont eat bass and I dont support eating them either. I dont fish many tournaments either. in fact its been a year or two since i have fished any kind of dogfight or any tournament, so you cant use the arguement that its about tournament fishing with me.
for me, i simply just enjoy catching bass. I enjoy catching all fish, but bass in particular are what I like to catch. for me its hard to kill something that i get so much pleasure out of catching. I like to catch them too much to kill them. kinda like eating my pet dog, the food is there if i was hungry, but i wouldnt get much enjoyment out of eating my pet dog.
besides that, have you seen what all has been dumped in our river. pcbs, mercury, old chemicals, tritium at watts bar, kingston ash spill, herbicides and pesticides, etc. hell i have caught all kinds of fish with sores and spots and growth on them. I dont think i want to eat that stuff.
but to each their own. everyone has a different opinion i guess.

Well Hell!!! Somebody give Churly a beer!
Maybe you should have sent a copy of your "resume" to the origonal poster, before making a childish remark. Have you looked into working for TWRA, or getting a degree in Wildlife Fish and Game to start? Seems like you have a lot of desire to work in that kind of field. Then they will give you a gun and a badge to go with that sour attitude. Sorry to step on anybodys toes, but dont like to see a poor guy get bashed over a simple question/curiosity about a certain species of fish that enjoys eating. It looks even worse coming from cff veterans... :(

My original post was not to stir the pot and was not to have a guy named churley that I do not even know call me a drunk. The post was made while I was at work on midnights. Way to judge a person without knowing anything about them churley. I hope this is not something you are passing down along with your conservation, if it is then attitude like that makes for a very bad future for our environment. I do appreciate your efforts on conservation, but you really need to find a better way to teach other than calling names and gettin sooo upset. Not many people will listen to someone that is teaching the way you just taught me. I said I DO pratice catch and release, but do not see anything wrong with keeping a few for dinner. Spurhunter asked why there are people that do not make many posts on this forum, well, it is because of statements just like the one you made. It is because of people like you... Again, I did not mean to start something so I could be called a "Drunk" posting late at night.

William, buddy i told you going against the CFF Mofia is like pissing in the wind. Its not a good idea. Next time you cook a big mess post in the recipe section. emoToast

I am not in the CFF mafia. There is one though, they hacked into my PMs last week and one of the secret members got offended and sent me a text on my phone...thats breaking the Federal Internet Privacy Act and could put an end to their underground enterprise, but I dont care, because theres nothing in my PMs that I wouldnt say to one's face.

wjhfish, There is NO doubt in my mind you were stiring the pot. If you have looked at this forum for the past couple of weeks you have seen that there has been major conflict between the eaters and the releasers. Also, reading your wishy-washy post and looking at the time I figured you were sauced. If the statement, "drink another one" has hurt your feeling, than I appologize. I just thought this was a forum full of fisherMEN.

Wiggles, I do have a degree, and I do carry a gun. I also didnt reply to you to post my resume, but to try to show you that tournament anglers like me are on the front lines of the fight to make this river the best it can be for all aquatic species. This forum was a big help in spreading the news and keeping people informed of anything. Now this forum seems to be loaded down with people who practice and promote the keeping of as many fish as the law allows. Its almost like there is a small group of people who think its cool to post pics and info about killing bass just to arrouse negative responses from "tournament anglers like churly". It worked and was a total success.

Like I have stated before I know lots of bass are kept and consumed, and its totaly your right to keep the leagal limit. But beating a dead horse to draw attention and stir up negative reaction will only take away from what little this forum has left to offer.

Churly, if you thought my posts were "wishy-washy" then maybe it was you that just did not understand them. You have your opinion and I have mine. JUST LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
