The spill happened on "Earth Day", just by chance?
The story I heard and I also posted on another thread that I was not going to blame BP until I heard something, so here goes;
A South Korean company built the platform, which recieved an award just a few days/weeks before Earth Day for an outstanding safety record.
As you know now, North Korea torpedoed a South Korean ship in the China Sea.
See wheere I'm going?
A North Korean ship left Cuba for Venezuela, Chavez country, steered off course towards the U S Gulf, stopped 150 miles from the BP platform, launched a 7 man minni suicide sub,
that has a range of 150 miles, found the platform, fired 2 explosive charges into the pipe line, then exploded underneath the platform, causing it to collapse.
Now he Obama Bunch is talking about taking over the oil industry so "THEY" can prevent this sort of thing happeninmg again, Chavez loves Him.
North Korea screws the US. Screws South Korea for building a faulty platform , and cuases havoc to the environment and US fishing industry and screws BP for not giving North Korea all the oil they want, and Chavez is sending Obama a letter on how to take over the rest of the US industries.
We had better drill baby drill before we are held hostage @ $10 per gallon by the people who Hate us the Most.

Hmm let's see oil industry got deregulated (including reducing safety programs) while an oil man was No1. and No2. "blame" is a mild word in this incident.

Why didnt he fix it during his 16 months in office? Bush was in 9 months before 9-11 but the liberal loons still say he should have been abale to stop that. Shoe's on the other foot now huh?....Just sayin.....

The President should not be blamed for the spill itself , just as Bush should not be blamed for 911. The blame goes to those who have cut corners, and ignored regulation in favor of profits. Oil companies.... just like Wall Street were given carte blanche, de- regulated (which basically says: make all the money you can , as fast as you can). What ticks me off, is that just a few weeks ago President Obama was actually going to open more offshore drilling ( much to Republicans delight). Drill Baby Drill!!!!

I you want to blame Obama...... Make your case.

That is a funny, conjured story. Interesting and funny.

The only blame i would bestow on Obama right now, is the fact that he would not release the COE permits for the states to conduct booming drops and other such preventative actions until late in the oil spill.

If Obama's appointees are doing so well, which is a reflection on him...then why is Elizabeth Birnbaum being fired? Is it profit driven as you said, or was it a lack of government oversight? If it was a skipped step, as many believe, where was the government inspectors? Don't they stay on the rigs 24/7, monitoring, checking, and overseeing?

Should we run around spouting off propaganda about Obama hating white people and that's why he "planned" this disaster, knowing there are so many rich white's living on the coast? Like I said, the shoe is on the other foot now.

That oil spill is not right...they are going to get oil to backup down some rivers and streams and get all in chattanooga's fishing waters.... when it does i am going to get mad!!!!

Sorry possum, I was getting onto jack84 for foolishness on another thread. I also, rightly or wrongly, I don't know if eyeman2 is educated (or an educator) so I don't have the same standards for him or others that I do of a teacher. That's the only reason that I had an issue with you in the past. Admittedly, I can't (or don't want to) follow half of his ramblings and mostly ignore them.

It's a combination of both... Greed and lack of oversight (funny how those two always go hand in hand). The difference here is: Heads are already starting to roll. Big difference from the last President.

Danny - or anyone - can you tell me the origin of the phrase "Drill, baby, drill" that has been used kind of as a slur here since the spill? I don't know, or can't remember, where or with whom the quote started and I woud be curious to find out the context that it was used in. Thanks!

where or with whom the quote started and I woud be curious to find out the context that it was used in.

"On October 2, 2008, at the Vice Presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, "drill, baby, drill" reached a new prominence. Joe Biden, referring to the energy crisis and McCain's 20 votes against funding solar and wind energy, stated that McCain thinks "the only answer is drill, drill, drill. Drill we must, but it will take 10 years for one drop of oil to come out of any of the wells that are going to be drilled." Palin responded by saying, "The chant is 'drill, baby, drill.' And that's what we hear all across this country in our rallies because people are so hungry for those domestic sources of energy to be tapped into.

Republicans continued to use the slogan after the 2008 election."

Drill Baby Drill was a 2008 presidential campaign slogan most notably attributed to Sarah Palin.(The next President of the United States). She, and most Republicans want MORE domestic drilling for oil. Especially in areas that have been off limits. In my view a basic difference between conservative and liberals. Conservatives want more time, effort and money spent drilling for more oil, while liberals want more time effort and money spend on green energy sources. Recently President Obama, to gain Republican support offered as part of an Energy Plan more offshore drilling (Mostly off the Virginia coast). Since this spill more offshore drilling has been tabled, and new permits postponed. This clip explains it better than I can
