Way to go bigfish, I know you have your work cut out for you but you have done it before, you must not be afraid of hard work, it will be a beauty one day.

Man, do you like to tinker. You have any time for your wife?

My wife wanted me to get a bigger boat so her an lil Fish could go too, so now as soon as this is water ready they can go too.
and she didnt want me to have a payment so this is the only way I can get both a boat and no payment.

Its a 1986 VS150

I did my last rebuild in a lil over 2 months and that was basically a learning boat, now I can fix any transom.

I guess I need to sell my lil green boat soon, to get cash for a motor. I just cant decide if my trolling motor will be big enuff to use on this one .. prob need a bigger one its only 30lb thrust .. but may have to use it until I can get a deal on one .

I think I need to go into the fiberglass repair buis to cover my boat habit .. I get a new one about every yr lol

Great deal !

You and your family will enjoy it Happy renovation !

those hydrasports are some cool boats. I know you will love it after you get it the way you want it.

That will be a nice rig when you get 'er all finished out, emoThumbsup Plus, that sweat equity is also something to be proud of, not everyone can or will do all that work, emoToast
I look forward to seeing the finished product, emoTongue

Most can , they just choose not to, they apparently have much deeper pockets than I. If you want it badly enough you will figure it out .. Ive offered to give free help doing the work to several here .. they either didnt believe I would really help for free, or something .. but Im straight up .. and willing to help those like others helped me.
That and I want paid for not financed !

NRG very nice looking boat, and those hydrasports are nice 'uns. I've just acquired mine and its rock solid in the water. Congrats and can't wait to see the end product. You should do a step by step in the boating forum so that we can look at the progress and the steps you took to get there.

ok, I will keep posting but yall gonna get sick of seeing photos of this boat lol

thats a nice one, you got a good deal. I sold one of those with a merc 150 for $500, but it was in terrible shape needed all kinds of work, that one looks good.

DANG 500 .. I would have bought iit just for the engine, and I bet the guy you sold too bought it just for the engine, anyone else know any deals like that let me know lol

Oh .. by the way update on the boat , transom solid so far when I get the top off this weekend I will be able to better judge.
only small 3x3 section of the floor needs replaced, and about 18 inches of one stringer is bad.
The seats are a trip, fiberglass base and some pressure treated ply wood, I can replace the seat bottom wood, and resew the seams then vinyl dye the seats, to fix the sun fade. Im gonna post some more pics here in al lil bit

Ok here are the new pics, removing carpet, and seats, and better assessing rot damage

The picture of the seats, fiberglass seat frames, with some pressure treated wood, for extra stiffing
So far this is looking like a much easier job than I thought !

Do your self a favor , if you buy a boat, and there is carpet in the battery gas tank compartment .. and you have no rot yet .. get that crap outa there . carpet holds water, oil gas etc .. then you screw down battery boxes and dont use silicone for each screw, the water slowly seeps in the screw holes and begins to rot the wood, if your lucky it only gets the thin plywood covered in carpet, if your unlucky you put a screw in a stringer like the previous owner of this boat. and you rot out your stringers and eventually your transom.
Never screw anything to the deck of a boat, if you do insist, use silicone .. SILICONE boat owners best friend, and every few years reapply it .
Best thing is to screw it into an area that is not carpeted at all .. carpet looks good, and feels good pn your feet, but carpet holds water .. water and wood dont mix. Boat manufactures coulod have done it right the first time and encased every scrap of would in glass, but generally they only do enuff to get past the warranty.

NRG silicone will work good on boat but eventually even it will give way to certain things like age and water but I have redone several boats and have found that 3M-5200 is by far the best thing to use. It is the only marine sealant that I have found that will last under water and in other types of chemicals. Just something I thought I would throw in there. If you can't locate it I have a source here I can get it for about 10 bucks in the big tube for caulking gun. It is some good stuff.
