    Fishing Superstitions

The content in the web site: http://www.tailhunter-international.com/bananas.htm posted by Ronnie Garrison makes me believe that all the crazy stuff in the Bermuda Triangle could be caused by bannanas.

    Fishing Superstitions

Here is one that I remembered. It's refered to as a 'bad boat day' and applied to all boats set in the water, not just the fishing kind. It is stated as "If there is any thing that goes wrong on the way to the ramp, the rest of the boating will be bad, so it will be better to bo back home."...

    Fishing Superstitions

Lets have a little fun posting superstitions and fishing folk lore. John Alden Knight started his study in Solunar Theory because of some folk lore concerning the moon and fishing. And it seems like a lot of folk lore is still out there. I'll volunteer the first one. When fishing on a pier...

    Barbed versus Barbless hooks

A low profile barb is a good middle ground. It dehooks the fish easier but does a pretty good of staying in the mouth of the fish. I have heard there is a technique to reeling in a barless hooked fish but I dont know what it is. I only pinch the barb down if I have trouble dehooking.

    Jigs...with or without rattles?

I wish they made a middle ground rattle. Maybe one pellet in a rubber container that would make a sutle thud. I just dont thing that high pitched baby rattle sound is convincing to much under the water.

Is there any one that has tried to soften monofilament castnets with fabric softener and found it worth while?

    Game and Non-Game Fish

Has any one seen a list of game and non-game fish? References to the two happen often in the regulations handbook, but I cant find a definition or a list. If it is a concern of regulation, it should be defined.

    Trout in the tennessee river

The temps of the reservoirs have been at the upper end of what they prefer, if they are not blocked by a dam they will probally follow that temp range. They should run up stream soon or just die.

Status of shad spawn on Hiwassee?

I believe the shad spawn in the fall, maybe the shiners were spawning.

    strike king tubes

In hunting some animals are attracted by curiosity scents. At best these scents provoke the curiosity of the fish. People have the tendecy to pick things up if they have interest provoked by it, people would be subject to being hooked in the hand. But fish need to put the object of interest...

How long before it happens here?

Looks like they will undo their legislation when a few species are wiped out and the problem of over population of bait fish and water born insects. Their rivers will be like the rivers of India, dead.

water temp for bass to spawn

To further complicate the matter, the temps for spawning are probally measures of central tendecy (ouch, that's stuff like averages and medians). We dont get to know what the range of spawning temps are. From my log the water temp shot up past the temps of several different species spawning...

    Public Pier Repair

Does any one know about a schedule for public pier maintenance? The pier at Soddy Lake was looking kind of rough. One railing was about to fall off.

    Hook Sharpening

There is another test I use. I cut thin strips of note card to about an inch wide. Usually a hook will not catch the card but after sharpening it will. A thin strip is used because it will not cup as held, only the bending resistance is used to catch the fibers of the card. Cheap hooks need...

    Perch Finding

Could you CFF'er give me some locations and structure where the Yellow Perch have been found in the past 2 or 3 weeks on and around Chickamauga. The reports including yellow perch have died out a little. Thanks in advance.

    size limits

The current focus on bass seems to be on improving its feeder fish. The bass population varied on the health of shad and small sunfish. The improvement has been to add cover by which the bait fish can hide. I know it might seem backwards but if the bait fish grow bigger, they will produce...
