I'd like to hear what you folks have to say about the 2010 Census. Our Constitution only calls for a head count of the people. Through time however, there is a lot of census data collected such as economic figures, sales and production figures, and agricultural statistics through the American Community Survey long form that some people are sent. Part of the U.S. Civil Code says we are subject to prosecution and fine if sent the long form and do not answer the request for in-depth personal information.

Look at the sample questionnaire with the link and you will see the questions. There are questions I do not think the government has to know. What could they really be used for in the wrong hands?

Edit: paste the entire link into your browser, for some reason the whole string is not coming up as the questionnaire link.

People will think this is crazy, but this is more Big Brother trying to get into our lives. Profiling who we are and knowing as much about us as possible.

What to do? Unless a census taker can show me a constitutional requirement, the only information I plan to give are the number and names of the people in my household. The census taker might say, "It's the law." Thomas Jefferson said, "Whensoever the General Government (Washington) assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force." Straight from Walter Williams and I totally agree.

All you have to give them is the names and the number of people in the house that reside there. That is all they are getting here and the person that gets it will have to identify themselves.

I don't mind some of the questions like others have mentioned, but some of the questions I will most likely not answer. As a teacher all of my financial records are public information anyway. I will say that I value being able to use the uscensusbureau.com statistics sheets to study geography and economics in my class.

Yes, I heard that Obama just started this long form thing and has a camera in every pkg.

Does anyone else think all the ads about the census are a tad bit ridiculous? I don't ever remember them spending this much on PSA's in the past. I guess its just another way the Gov't is stimulating the economy...

I received a long form. Threw it in the trash. Received a 2nd one, threw this one in the trash also. Then the phone calls started. When I declined to give answers other than the number of the people living here the intimidation tactics started. She said "well I guess we'll have to schedule a visit". I told her to schedule her visit but if they think I'm going to answer any more of their questions they had best bring a cop with them to arrest me because I had already provided ALL of the information I was going to provide. I am not going to tell her how long my average commute is, or how much my electric bill was last month or how many times I go to the doctor on average. It's none of the government's business and I don't care what the Census Bureau says I'm not answering the questions. PERIOD.

I can understand that, but it should be voluntary.</p>

Bravo to you - these other questions have nothing to do with Congressional Districts.

i got my form today... all its wanted to know is names... b-days and my race...... I dont see whats so bad about those questions... they can get any of that info in 5 mins if they want on a computer.... hell any random person can get that info in 5 mins on a computer...

so i filled it out and sent it in...

Those of you that have conspiracy theories, the census is very important to our local governments, it determines the amount of money that is sent to take care of certain duties, I am not going to get into all of that, but it is important to answer then honestly so that your local government gets the proper amount!

Opps.... emoSorry Was that what that was....I got it with a bunch of other junk mail and tore it up. It was filed in file 13 so I guess they will be coming after me. "Their coming to take me away...ah ha, he, he...with all the pretty colors." emoCrazy Jmax

Just filled mine out. The only thing they asked was the number of people, age and race really living in my home. Asked if you owned, rented or had a mortgage? That was it!
