Its blue cat spawning season, and this is somewhat common while they defend their dens.

Also do yourself a favor and always carry one of these, not only does it work terrific for deep hooked fish, but if you dont want to bring certain fish aboard your boat, i.e. catfish, you just hook your line, slide down the rig to the hook, (if its a bar hook like a work hook or live baits, etc)...
